Whether it’s a wedding gown, a special occasion dress, a pair of jeans or a ready-to-wear item, my needle is ready to assist!
As a professional seamstress with over 35 years of experience, I pay attention to not only your body but the intricate details of your garment. With a creative mind, an eye for detail and experience with all types of fabrics, I can provide you with extraordinary alterations so your garments fit properly.
As the youngest child of a Midwestern farmer and home-maker, my mother made clothing for my sisters and me. I can still remember learning from her, laying out fabric on the kitchen table and using butter knives to hold the pattern in place – there was way too much to do on the farm to be bothered with pins! That was the beginning.
I thank my mother for sparking my interest and for my initial skills. While working my way through college, I picked up the more technical aspects of sewing working at a high-end clothing boutique. Their motto of ‘yes, that can be done’ has stuck with me all these years. I learned how to alter furs, suede, leather and women’s ready-to-wear and started my professional career in alterations.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in textile & clothing design, I altered bridal gowns, bridesmaids and wedding parties at a bridal boutique. Then I moved to the world of costuming. As a stitcher for the Washington D.C. Opera and Wolftrap Opera in Vienna, Virginia, I created stunning costumes for The Magic Flute, La Boheme, Don Pasquale, and Turandot, just to name a few. Now my dream of having my own design and alteration business is a reality. As a third generation seamstress, I’m proud and passionate about sewing and design and would love to share my talents with you.
